"State of the Catastrophe" Address

25th Jan 2022

Greetings members of the Catastrophe!

It's the time of the year to expound on the happenings of the last year, and our plans for the next.

Games published in 2021-

The Landing: Gallipoli 1915

Judean Hammer

USS Laffey

Games to be published 2021-

Zurmat

2021 was the first year we actually produced games. Each game went through Kickstarter, and we'll likely continue that for most of our games in the near future.

Games we plan to crowdfund in 2022-

Stonewall Uprising, The Fight for Gay Civil Rights (2 player)

Campaign Fall Blau, the 1942 German attack towards Stalingrad and the southern oilfields (solo)

Lonely Cairn, the failed attempt to find the Northwest Passage (solo)

Scarper, the entire WW1 war on the Western Front (2 player)

If things go well, we might crowdfund for:

Sadr City, the Iraq war version of Zurmat

True Command, a brigade/division command level game set in WW2

Financials:

2020 we raised almost $6000 on Kickstarter. A decent first step.

2021 saw us raise $31,000 on Kickstarter and Gamefound. Orders on the website amounted to an additional $2,000. Itchi.io orders were not bad, but since digital downloads are so inexpensive we made less than $200 on that site.

Of course we hope to raise more revenue each time we crowdfund, but we are really going to watch the website orders. Ideally the two sources will be equal, but that's very likely years away when we have more games to sell.

Profit is not nearly so rosy. We can't reveal our margins without revealing what Blue Panther charges but it is no state secret that printing in the US is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than printing in China. Even considering the transportation costs. However, China is not a good actor on the world stage, so keeping money in the US is probably better in the long run. The key we believe is increasing sales by having more games to sell and volume will do the rest.

So that's the wrap on 2021. A tough year for the planet, but a good year for our little game company. We shall see what 2022 brings!
